Biography

After studying fine arts at Cornell University, I received a BA in art history in 1978 from Barnard College, Columbia University, and a MA in art history in 1981 from the University of Chicago. Although my passion has been the making of art, my livelihood was the care and interpretation of it.

After a career working in art museums, I retired in 2018 to again focus on my own art-making which I had put on “the back burner” for decades. My museum experience included the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, where I was Associate Director of the Research Center, the Rubin Museum of Art (RMA) in NYC, where I was Manager of Collections and Exhibitions, and most recently, the Princeton University Art Museum, where I oversaw the University’s campus art collections.

I moved to Newburyport Massachusetts just when the Covid epidemic began. The solitude helped to propel my second career as an artist and my creative drive and enthusiasm haven’t slowed down since.

I’ve exhibited in numerous group exhibitions at the Newburyport Art Association and was included in two juried exhibitions at the Marblehead Arts Association. In 2022, the Hemphill Family Foundation awarded me the “Art Adventure Grant” which I used to spend two months in Roccanova, Basilicata, Italy, and creating a series of watercolors based on my stay. From July 26 through August 4, I’ve been offered a Featured Artist exhibition at the Newburyport Art  Association.
